There will be a heavy UNC influence this weekend at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore for the US Women’s National Team tryouts.

12 current and former Carolina women’s lacrosse players will be shooting for the chance to represent the national team.

UNC has put two attackers, five midfielders, four defenders, and a goalie in the tryout pool.

2010 Carolina graduate Jenn Russell is one of seven players returning from the 2013 World Cup Champion United States team returning for a chance at a spot on the 2015 – 2016 squad.

Tryouts will be held Friday through Sunday in Baltimore. After the three-day tryout almost 40 players will be selected to the 2015 – 2016 national team preparing for the 2017 Women’s World Cup in England. The final squad will be comprised of 18 players attempting to win a third-consecutive World Cup title and eighth overall.

The dozen Tar Heels in the national team tryout pool are the most of any college program in the country.
