CHAPEL HILL- The North Carolina softball team will step out of ACC play on Tuesday to face Appalachian State at home.

The Tar Heels are 25-13 on the season, and 6-3 in the ACC. In recent play, North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech 2-1 in its series over the weekend.
The Mountaineers hold the top spot in the Southern Conference with a 9-3 record and a 15-11 overall record. Appalachian also won its series this weekend as it swept SoCon member College of Charleston 3-0.

North Carolina has yet to play any other opponents in the SoCon this season, but will later face Elon and UNC Greensboro.

Appalachian fell to ACC member Florida State in a double header earlier in the season.

The Tar Heels and the Mountaineers will face off at 5:00 p.m. at Anderson Stadium.
