CHAPEL HILL – The No. 25 Heels handled Appalachian State 9-2 Tuesday evening at Anderson Stadium. Constance Orr led Carolina with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
Elisha Elliott headed-off the first inning with a single; she then stole second before advancing to third on a ground out. Orr doubled to center sending Elliott home to put the Heels on the board first.
Kristen Brown drew a walk loading the bases for UNC, and Kati Causey drew another walk bringing Amber Parrish home.

Jenna Kelly reached first on an error, driving-in Orr for the score; this also advanced Amy Nece and Brown. A third walk to Megan Morrison scored Brown, giving Carolina the 4-0 advantage.

The Heels went on another scoring tear in the second inning with 5 runs. Orr came to bat with bases loaded; she drew the walk to score Satterfield. A pitch hit Nece, advancing Dickey for the score, leaving the bases loaded with one out. A single by Kelly to left field brought Parrish home. Orr came home on a wild pitch that also advanced Kelly and Nece. A single by Elliott drove in Nece, increasing UNC’s lead to 9-0.
Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but the Mountaineers avoided the shut-out with two runs in the fifth. Sarah Warnock’s double to right center drove in both ASU runners to put the Mountaineers on the board with two runs.

Lori Spingola pitched five innings with no runs for the win, giving up just one hit and one walk.

The Heels improved to 26-13 (6-3) on the season.

Up next Carolina will host James Madison on Wednesday, playing a doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m.
