CHAPEL HILL – Two homeruns powered the UNC softball team past Virginia Tech Friday night,3-2.

In fact, all five scores were tallied by homeruns. The Hokies started things off with a solo shot to right-center by junior Amanda Ake.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Tar Heel junior Amy Nece reached on a walk.; redshirt freshman Jenna Kelly followed her and sent the ball over the left-field fence for the two-RBI homer and the lead.

But, Ake answered the shot with a lead-off homerun in the top of the fifth to tie the contest at two.

The final score of the night came in the bottom of the fifth when senior Haleigh Dickey hit her fifth homer of the season to take the 3-2 advantage.

The Hokies left three stranded in the final two innings and the Tar Heels took the win. Junior Lori Spingola pitched the complete game and improved to 15-9 on the season. She gave up four hits, struck out six, and only walked three.

With the win, Carolina improved to 24-12, 5-2 in the ACC; Virginia Tech fell to 18-7, 0-3. Saturday’s double header to close out the series begins at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Stadium.
