The Chapel Hill Tigers began the 2nd quarter of last evening’s contest as if it were a whole new season playing nearly flawless football  scoring 26 unanswered points while defeating the Cedar Ridge Red Wolves 26-6 in front of a big homecoming crowd at the Wolf’s Den in Hillsborough.  Sophomore quarterback #12 Grant Stough, after a rocky start, threw the ball with laser accuracy for the remainder of the night.  Brother Senior #10 Alec Stough, #17 Bradley Kenyan, and #9 Javon Wells literally picked the ball out the air making several exceptional receptions on the night for the Tigers.  Senior Tiger #17 Bradley Kenyan turned in the night of his life in all 3 phases of the game.  Kenyan recovered 2 fumbles, had 2 touchdown receptions, 6 tackles, and 1 sack as he led the Tigers on this winning night.  Due to injuries the Tigers were forced to move #33 Ben Gleiter to the tailback position for the evening.  Gleiter typically lines up offensively in the wing or slot position and is in motion many times in the Tigers offense.  Replacing Gleiter in the wing was #24 Eric Xu for the evening.  The Tiger offensive line comprised of Senior #73 Zurich Street, #54 Sam Purcell, #66 Victor Breeze, #76 Micah Baker, and #70 RJ Haney gave Stough plenty of time to throw during the 26 point run.

The Cedar Ridge Red Wolves lost their starting quarterback Philip Berger in the 2nd game of the year versus Eastern Guilford.  The loss of Berger has forced the Red Wolves to become more of a one dimensional offense behind his very athletic replacement Junior #7 Freddie Francis.  Francis who displayed brilliant running ability through the evening just could not generate enough passing to ward off a Tiger defense that keyed on him from the very beginning.  Senior #1 Kevin Wright was all over the field the first half for the Red Wolves making plays on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.  An injury to Wright in the 2nd quarter proved to be costly for Cedar Ridge as they could not get anything going offensively for the rest of the evening.

The Cedar Ridge Red Wolves, however, are undoubtedly building a program behind head coach Scott Loosemore and his staff.  Coach Loosemore and his staff have began making future impact on the program through the implementation of regimented workouts, a JV program, monitoring of middle school athletes, and an extraordinary practice routine.  The Big 8 – 3A Conference will see the Red Wolves making an impact in the very near future.

After a 33 yard field goal by Red Wolf kicker #93 Cameron Kohler  the Chapel Hill Tiger defense was equal to the task the remainder of the evening.  Behind #17 Bradley Kenyan, #10 Alec Stough, #33 Ben Gleiter, #54 Sam Purcell, #52 Chris Davis, #66 Victor Breeze, and cornerback #9 Javon Wells the Tigers thwarted several Cedar Ridge drives and forced several turnovers in route to the win.

The Chapel Hill Tigers head to Northern Durham High School to face the Knights next Friday night with a 7:00 kickoff.  The Red Wolves are home against the Southern Alamance Patriots next Friday night with a special 7:30 p.m. start.

The 97.9 The Hill broadcast crew makes it way to Hillside High School next Friday night for a key Big 8 – 3A Conference matchup between the Orange Panthers and the Hillside Hornets.  Tune into our pregame show in week #9 beginning at 6:45.
