CHAPEL HILL- As NCAA tournament time draws nearer, the Tar Heel men’s basketball team is looking to defeat the Seminoles for the second time this season Sunday at the Dean Dome.

Florida State comes into Chapel Hill with a 15-13 record, 8-7 in the ACC. The Seminoles are struggling more this year than they have in the past, but the Heels will have to play to their fullest ability to make sure they aren’t upset for the third time in the last four meetings of the teams.

Both teams are fresh off of victories—FSU defeated Wake Forest in Tallahassee on Tuesday, and UNC won in Clemson on Thursday. At 10-5, Carolina is tied with Virginia at third place in the ACC and has won ten of the last thirteen games.

The Heels have been thriving with the smaller line-up featuring PJ Hairston, but they will need to watch senior Florida State guard Michael Snaer, who has been averaging just less than fifteen points a game and is considered one of the better defenders in the nation. The Tar Heels shot 47 percent from the floor and held the Tigers to under 35 percent in the last game and will look to keep the momentum moving.

Roy Williams’ offense and fast-pace play focused around turnovers is starting to click with the new line-up, and Hairston, along with Reggie Bullock, will look to continue their lights-out shooting.

This game will mark the third to last for the Heels in the regular season, and with the Heels considered by many to be an NCAA bubble team, each of their performances going forward could prove crucial on Selection Sunday. After playing Florida State, UNC takes on another bubble team, the Maryland Terrapins, on the road March 6 before returning home for senior night—a marquee matchup against No. 3 Duke.

Tipoff against the Seminoles is scheduled for 2:00 Sunday afternoon. Our pregame coverage begins at noon with Countdown To Tipoff, hosted this week by Ran Northam.
