With a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, junior third-baseman Colin Moran hit his tied-for-team-leading third homerun batting another man in and giving the Heels four in the fourth. Moran led the way batting 2-3 with one run scored and three RBIs in all. Senior first-baseman Cody Stubbs also had a strong night batting 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Junior right-hander Shane Taylor started on the mound for Carolina and threw 5.1 innings giving up five hits, one earned run, two walks, and throwing three strikeouts. In all, the five-pitcher staff allowed nine hits (equal to Carolina’s total), but the defense held and High Point left 11 runners stranded.
Wednesday’s win improved UNC to 16-0. The Tar Heels take their 3-0 conference mark into the weekend series against the No. 29 Miami Hurricanes who dropped their conference-opening weekend to Duke, 2-1.
