After selecting UNC shortstop Logan Warmoth in the first round (22nd overall) of this year’s MLB Draft, the Toronto Blue Jays agreed this week to sign the Florida native to a contract worth just over $2.82 million.
The deal will pay Warmoth about $25,000 more than the average 22nd overall pick, and also officially closes the door on his collegiate career in Chapel Hill.
Warmoth helped carry the Tar Heels to a 49-14 record and the No. 2 national ranking this past season–as he showed scouts the type of well-rounded versatility they’ll be looking for at the next level.
Not only did Warmoth lead UNC with 10 home runs in 2017, he also hit for a fantastic .336 average and flashed an outstanding glove at shortstop.
Although the Blue Jays have yet to announce where Warmoth will be assigned, it is expected that he will join the Vancouver Canadians in Single-A.
Excited to announce that we've signed our 2017 1st-round picks @loganwarmoth and @big_nate5!
