Former UNC quarterback Bryn Renner has signed a contract with the San Diego Chargers.

Renner was a three-year starter for the Tar Heels.  During his time in Chapel Hill, he threw for 8,221 yards and 64 touchdowns.  Renner’s promotion to the starting job at UNC came in 2011, the first season after Butch Davis was fired.  At the time, the quarterback was noted for his enthusiasm.

After a shoulder injury shortened his senior season, Renner went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft.  He signed as a free agent with the Denver Broncos, but was waived at the end of training camp.  He joined the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers in the fall of 2014.  In January 2015, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens.  Bryn Renner started the 2015 season on Baltimore’s practice squad.  He was promoted to the active roster in December, but was released a week later.  He ended the 2015 season the Tennessee Titans practice squad.

In San Diego, Renner will be playing behind N.C. State’s Phillip Rivers.  Rivers has started every game for the Chargers since 2006.
