On a perfect night for high school football two talented teams took center stage in a playoff type atmosphere at Orange High School.  The 4A Hoggard Vikings behind their composed senior quarterback Josh Jones, a powerful stout tailback in #34 Lloyd Jarreau, and a bend but don’t break defense, outlasted an extremely talented Orange Panther squad 26 – 6 in front of an excited near capacity crowd at Orange High School.  The Panthers showed promise early in moving the ball through one of the best defenses in the state but simply could not finish several early drives that proved to be costly.  Marvante Beasley churned away at the stubborn Viking defense amounting to over 100 yards in the first half.  After 244 yards in kickoff and/or punt returns in week one. the Vikings were having nothing to do with putting the ball in #11 Payton Wilson’s hands except for one lone kick off where the senior ran for a 31 yard return.  The Tarheel commit and senior Panther made one standout play after another in the Panther loss.

WCHL (97.9 The Hill) broadcast this incredible game 2 in what had the feel of a November playoff game.  A special thanks to the coaching staff, administration, players, and fans for creating an amazing community event.  The Panthers have next week off and travel to Rolesville on September 8th for a date with the Rams.

The broadcast crew sited little doubt that we were all viewing two teams in their respective class that will play deep into November.  WCHL will broadcast 2 games next week.  On Thursday night it will be an inner city rivalry game between the Chapel Hill Tigers and the Carrboro Jaguars.  Then it’s back to Pittsboro where the Northwood Chargers take on the Asheboro Blue Comets.  Each game is slated for a 7 p.m. kick off time.

The 97.9 The Hill Broadcast crew welcome Orange Principal Eric Yarborough during our halftime show.  It was a pleasure hearing his insight into the positive happenings at Orange High School.
