CHAPEL HILL – The No. 1 UNC baseball team steps out of conference play for two mid-week contests at home Tuesday and Wednesday.

The VCU Rams travel to the Hill on Tuesday for an early evening game. Due to the expectation of very cold night-time temperatures, Tuesday’s game was moved up to 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday’s was moved to 4:00 p.m.

The Rams are 12-8 and opened Atlantic-10 conference play last weekend with three losses to Butler. VCU has dropped five of its last six contests.

The Tar Heels are 21-1, 7-1 in the ACC and have won five straight since their lone loss of the season to then-No. 29 Miami. Carolina only played two of the three games in the Boston College series this weekend as rain shortened the matchup that was already moved from Chestnut Hill to Chapel Hill.

North Carolina’s pitching staff has moved into the No. 2 spot in the earned run average. UNC’s 1.70 ERA is second only to Oregon State’s 1.64. The Tar Heel offense is also one of the tops in the land as it is fifth in runs scored at 9.4 per game.

Wednesday Carolina will host the Big South’s Winthrop Eagles in preparation of its weekend conference series against Clemson.

Due to the UNC women’s basketball game Tuesday and the early start time Wednesday, the mid-week games will not be carried on WCHL. However, you can listen to the
