HILLSBOROUGH– What a night of high school football action it was on WCHL and Chapelboro.com.

In the feature WCHL game of the week, the hard-nosed Orange Panthers put their unblemished record on the line against an upset-minded 7-2 Cardinal Gibbons squad from Raleigh.

On a sloppy track from all the rain, Orange waded through a tight first half of play to finally pull away in the final two quarters to claim a 49-28 home victory and improve to 10-0 on the season.

In the Chapelboro.com game, fans were treated to a classic encounter between the Northwood Chargers and the resurgent Tigers of Chapel Hill. Time expired in in the fourth quarter only to find the teams knotted up at 24 apiece.

But the Chargers pulled out the narrow win in the extra minutes of play to improve to 8-2 on the year while Chapel Hill players were left scratching their heads again as another nail biter went against them.

In other area action, Hillside thumped East Chapel Hill 52-0 and Carrboro fell to Graham 41-13 to add to their disappointing season.

Cedar Ridge’s contest with Northern Vance has been rescheduled for Nov. 4.
