HS Football Roundup: Orange Rolls On While Chapel Hill Falls
CHAPEL HILL– Week ten of high school football action featured a rivalry game match-up between the Chapel Hill Tigers and the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders in our WCHL game of the week.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead against the home team from Raleigh, but their defense couldn’t hold down the prolific offensive attack of Cardinal Gibbons in the fourth quarter.
It was the Crusaders who downed Chapel Hill 47-36 to improve to 7-2 on the season and drop the Tigers to a disappointing 3-6 record.
In other area action, Orange High School continued their march towards perfection by blowing out Webb 56-7. The highlight of the game was an electrifying 69-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Garrett Cloer to star receiver Tay Jones.
The Panthers gave up a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but overwhelmed the Webb offense all night long. Orange now sits at 9-0.
Carrboro continued their slide this season. This time, the Jaguars dropped a 28-7 decision at Jordan-Matthews. Cedar Ridge wasn’t so lucky this week following their first win of the year last Friday. The Red Wolves were beaten soundly by Southern Durham 68-10.
East Chapel Hill grabbed an impressive 42-35 road win over Person High School. And Coach Bill Hall’s Northwood Chargers got back on track after their bitter defeat at the hands of Southern Durham last week. On Friday night, the Chargers throttled Northern Vance 51-17.
