After a week of snow, cancelled basketball tournaments and wondering what’s next, Chapel Hill, Cedar Ridge, East Chapel Hill and Orange can rest easy now. They all know where they’re headed for the state playoffs.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the preliminary brackets on Saturday afternoon. In the 4-A state playoffs, East Chapel Hill (11-11) will travel to Greenville on Tuesday to face J.H. Rose. The Wildcats are the third-seed from the PAC-6 Conference who finished the regular season with home wins over Riverside and Hillside. East ended the year with a win over PAC-6 Conference champion Jordan on the Falcons’ senior night.

If the Wildcats beat the Rampants, they face a potential second-round rematch with Jordan. The Falcons take on Fayetteville Jack Britt in Durham on Tuesday.

Meanwhile in the 3-A state playoffs, three Orange County teams made the field of 64. Orange (16-6), the Big 8 Conference runner-up, will host South Johnston on Tuesday in Hillsborough. The Panthers, seeded 10th, had a chance to capture the top seed in the Big 8 Conference, but lost to crosstown rival Cedar Ridge on the final night of the regular season.

Chapel Hill and Cedar Ridge, considered on the bubble as the campaign wound to a close, also made the playoffs and have road trips in the first round. The Tigers (14-8) will travel to Jacksonville. Cedar Ridge (13-9), seeded 25th, will go against Eastern Wayne, who captured the eight-seed despite a 7-15 overall record.

Big 8 regular season champion Cardinal Gibbons, in its final year as a 3-A school, will face Southern Nash in the opening round. Southern Durham also made the field and takes on Triton in Erwin.

The NCHSAA has yet to release the girls bracket as of 3 P.M. on Saturday afternoon. Chapel Hill, the defending 3-A state champions, is slated to be among the top 5 seeds after finishing undefeated in the Big 8 Conference.
