CHAPEL HILL– Week three of high school action featured some intriguing matchups pitting local teams fighting to turn their seasons around. And the score lines indicated the urgency.

And no game may have displayed more urgency than Cedar Ridge’s trip over to East Chapel Hill to take on new Head Coach Jon Sherman’s squad. Both teams were gunning for their first victory of the 2013 season in one of WCHL’s broadcast games on Friday night.

It was the home team that came out on top in this one by a score of 24-21. Coach Chris Casey’s Cedar Ridge defense put the clamps on the offensive attack of East Chapel Hill in the second half, but came up three points shy of a win.

In other area action, Coach Jason Tudryn’s Carrboro Jaguars continued their winning march. This time, it was the Chapel Hill Tigers serving as their victims, going down in an intense nail biter after a furious rally fell just short 29-28.

Meanwhile, Orange High School is turning out to have quite a juggernaut of a football team this year. Orange thumped Riverside 38-0. Head Coach Pat Moser’s stingy defense has still yet to give up an offensive touchdown through three games to remain undefeated.

Coach Bill Hall’s Northwood squad also picked up a nice victory by a 22-6 margin over Jordan-Matthews.
