It was a state championship weekend for several local teams in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro district.

The Chapel Hill boys’ swimming team captured the 3-A state championship. It’s the second consecutive team championship for the Tigers, who compiled 341 points, 40 better than runner-up Cardinal Gibbons. The star of the day for the Tigers was Jake Pudek, who won three individual state championships. Pudek captured the championship in the 50-meter freestyle; was also a member of Chapel Hill’s state championship 200-yard freestyle relay team, which also included Christopher Eron, David Batson and Emery Harwell; and was also on the 400-yard freestyle relay team, with Eron, Ang Li and Patrick O’Donnell.

In girl’s swimming, Chapel Hill’s Claire DeSelm captured two individual state championships: the 100 fly and the 200 individual medley. It’s the second year in a row she has won both of those state titles.

Meanwhile, the Carrboro boys’ swimming team tied Shelby for the 2-A/1-A state championship. The Jaguars’ Will Macmillan won two individual events, taking honors in the 100 free and setting a new state record in the 200 free. He was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the meet for the second straight year. Carrboro’s Thomas Bilden was also victorious in two events.
