WCHL’s high school baseball broadcast on March 29, 2017 was the first of WCHL’s expansion of high school sports.  The expansion of these broadcasts will include not only football but basketball and baseball as well.  The first high school baseball game was  broadcast from Chapel Hill High School where the Tigers faced the Orange Panthers in a 7:03 first pitch.  The broadcast crew was welcomed by the Tiger and Panther faithful with great enthusiasm.   Coach Lee Land’s Chapel Hill Tigers defeated Coach Dean Dease’s Orange Panthers 7 – 0.  The Tiger’s winning effort was centered behind the 3 hit shutout pitching of Tiger ace #11 Jake Smith.  Sophomore second baseman Colin Liebe and sophomore center fielder Tyler Tachman each had multiple hit nights for the Tigers. The broadcast along with the fans in attendance created a “carnival like” atmosphere with a great time had by all.

WCHL’s high school baseball broadcast schedule in it’s initial season includes 5 regular season games.  The final regular season broadcast is scheduled for May 5th, 2017.  The contest will feature the Chargers or Northwood visiting the Tigers of Chapel Hill.  This game will likely have Big 8 – 3A Conference Championship implications.  In addition, there are plans to broadcast North Carolina high school playoff games where Orange County schools will participate.  Stay tuned to WCHL and chapelboro.com for future details.
