The Bears, literally, don’t know what they got in Mitch Trubisky.

The 2017 NFL Draft went upside-down on the second selection, when the Chicago Bears traded away two draft picks to move up one spot and nab a kid who only started 13 college games. While they can’t know what they got in Carolina’s No. 10, they will soon find out. Trubisky will become the first Pro Bowl quarterback in franchise history since Jim McMahon in 1986, 31 years ago.

There will be little pressure on Mitch his rookie season, because the Bears have the overpaid, overrated Mike Glennon from N.C. State on the roster. Glennon signed a $45 million contract in the off-season but only 18 million is guaranteed. By the time they send the former Wolfpacker packing, Trubisky will be ready to step in.

The former Ohio high school player of the year, who spurned Ohio State to attend UNC, essentially disappeared for his first three seasons. But he shattered enough records as a red-shirt junior to become the hottest topic heading in the draft, where he was the first Tar Heel QB ever to be taken in the first round.

Unless the Bears pull another shocker and trade Trubisky before they sign him to a contract, they have found their quarterback for the next 10 years. Playing close to his home in the Midwest, Trubisky will develop into one of the NFL’s top QBs and lead the Bears back to the playoffs within three years. You heard it here first.

Another exciting move locally was the Panthers using their eighth pick to take Stanford’s all-purpose Christian McCaffery, perhaps the best all-around athlete in the entire draft. McCaffery will give Cam Newton the mid-range receiver the Panthers lack who can also bust it deep with his deceptive speed and spectacular hands. McCaffery will become a new darling in Charlotte, where the Panthers are primed to return to the playoffs.

So the smart, strong-armed and mobile Trubisky goes No. 2 to Chicago and the Panthers use No. 8 to take one of the most versatile players in the draft. All in all, a very good night for the big kid from Carolina and the big Cats down the road.
