It was another of those Super Sundays for Carolina.

Ever wonder what the NCAA suits think while trying to nail UNC with something significant, when they see what is happening with the Tar Heels’ athletic program? You know, winning football Coastal Division, consecutive Final Fours and the NCAA title in men’s basketball and domination of Olympic sports in the fall and spring?

They must want to eat their paperwork when something happens like it did Sunday from Rome, Georgia, to Durham to Chapel Hill to Richmond. Carolina teams won three ACC championships and what seemed like the World Series under bright beautiful skies in those locations. Let’s go over them, shall we?

Women’s tennis repeated as ACC champion, with two-time  Player of the Year Hayley Carter winning the MVP in the tournament the Tar Heels capped by defeating Georgia Tech, 4-3. Coach Brian Kalbas, who has already earned the most victories in UNC women’s tennis history, won his third ACC title and second straight.

What could be better than winning the ACC men’s lacrosse championship on Duke’s home field, except for beating the Blue Devils? Well, the defending national champion Tar Heels beat the team that beat Duke Friday night in a dominating 14-10 win over sixth-ranked Notre Dame. Coach Joe Breschi’s club earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and is playing well enough to be a real sleeper to repeat. MVP Chris Cloutier was joined by Luke Goldstock, Jack Lambert and Andy Matthews on the all-tourney team.

Not to be outdone, of course, the defending NCAA women’s champions outscored Syracuse 9-0 down the stretch to win their ACC tournament in Richmond behind seven goals from MVP Molly Hendrick and three goals and three assists from Chapel Hill’s Sydney Holman. Coach Jenny Levy’s Tar Heels go into the big tournament one of the hottest teams in the country with a 16-2 record.

Oh, yes, and Mike Fox’s baseball team rallied for a third straight day to sweep Clemson at home and run its record to 36-9. It was just a regular-season series, mind you, but it seemed like much more.
