The Northern Knights used a balanced offensive attack, stingy defense, and an endless supply of enthusiasm to defeat the Northwood Chargers 34-7 and claim a Big 8 – 3A Conference Co-Championship with the Orange Panthers.  A game that was much more exciting than the score was filled with one big play after another leaving the spectators as wired as the players.

Knight quarterback Brycen Jackson “gun slinged” his way through the evening connecting on 8 of 21 passes for 174 yards, 3 interceptions, and 2 touchdowns.  Jackson’s powerful arm was displayed on several occasions connecting on deep routes against one of the best secondaries in the state in the Northwood Chargers.

Both teams were riddled with turnovers and penalties throughout the contest, however, it was the Chargers 6 turnovers that ultimately became their demise.

The Northern Knights and the Northwood Chargers each await their playoff seeding later today when the NCHSAA publishes the brackets for the 2017 High School Football Championships.  The Big 8 – 3A Conference will receive 2 automatic playoff births which will be filled by the #1 seeded Orange Panthers and the #2 seed Northern Knights.  Once the playoff bracket is completed with the automatic bids it will then be filled with teams with the best qualifying statistics from maxpreps.com.  As a result, the Big 8 – 3A conference could have as many as 4 teams represented, thus giving the Northwood Chargers and Hillside Hornets possible representation as well.

WCHL – 97.9 The Hill will not be broadcasting the first round of the playoffs as the 2017 National Champion North Carolina Tarheels will be broadcasting their season opener next Friday night.  We will return to the airwaves on November 17th for the second round of the playoffs in the event an area team has advanced.

WCHL – 97.9 The Hill would like to thank the entire Chapelboro as well as the Durham area players, coaches, families, and fans for an unforgettable 2017 high school football regular season.  Stay tuned next week for the release of our 2017-2018 high school basketball broadcast schedule.
