In 2008, the town of Hillsborough obtained 20 acres of land adjacent to the North Carolina Railroad corridor to develop a passenger rail service. Currently, Hillsborough is planning and designing a building for the train station. Town staff and designers provided updates in a November Board of Commissioners work session.
On November 14, over 125 elected officials and organizations in North Carolina crafted and signed a statement denouncing violence and hateful rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community.
While the Hillsborough train station project is chugging along, one initial element has now been dropped from its plans. The initial scope of the project was for the building to be “net-zero,” but that was leading to additional costs in the budget for the project.
In the Town of Hillsborough, there is a race for two open seats on the board of commissioners. Two incumbents are running against one new challenger. Hillsborough Mayor Jenn Weaver will be running unopposed for her mayoral seat.
A planned Hillsborough affordable housing project recently hit a roadblock. Collins Ridge, a 1,000 unit development, was set to have 88 affordable housing properties within the neighborhood. Now, those units are being relocated.
