UNC Athletics Posts 82 Percent Graduation Success Rate

Data released by the NCAA on Tuesday covering the cohort of academic years 2006-2009 showed that UNC posted a Graduation Success Rate of 82 percent during that time. This measurement looks at student-athlete graduation rates by team, and takes into account student-athletes who are on scholarship their first year and graduate from their respective university–or transfer to another university or professional opportunities while in good academic standing. While the national GSR average–across all sports–is 84 percent, UNC had seven of its teams score 100 percent in their respective GSRs. UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham has received a pay bump after it appeared Cunningham was ready to move to the University of Florida in early September. The News & Observer is citing a university record that was released on Friday in reporting Cunningham’s salary has been increased to $705,853 annually. WCHL reported that the university was preparing a raise for Cunningham in the wake of the near move to Florida, which was reportedly offering Cunningham $1.4 million annually. ACC ADs Vote to Keep Eight-Game Conference Schedule in Football

Throughout the offseason and into this year, there was plenty of chatter about whether the ACC would move from its current eight-game conference schedule in football to a nine-game schedule. UNC Releases Plans for Football-Specific Indoor Practice Facility

Last November, as the UNC football team was in the midst of a school-record 11-game win streak, it was announced that the school had plans to build an indoor practice facility on campus. Sources close to both athletic departments have confirmed a USA Today report that UNC’s Bubba Cunningham agreed to become the new athletics director at the University of Florida in August but changed his mind as the deal was to be announced in Gainesville, Florida. The North Carolina Tar Heels are preparing for a matchup against Syracuse on Saturday night in the Final Four. Nine UNC administrators were given raises by the university Board of Trustees during the meeting on Thursday. Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham received the biggest raise to $642,268, a $58,388 bump – which is a 10 percent increase over his previous salary.
