Raleigh – People all over the country will be crossing the map for the Thanksgiving holiday this week, but weather may affect flights to and from RDU.

RDU spokesperson Mindy Hamlin says she expects close to 200,000 people to fly in and out of the airport this Thanksgiving holiday. She says they’re prepared for the abundance of people, but weather has a plan of its own each year.

“Of course as most people realize there’s inclement weather all around us,” Hamlin says, “We are reminding passengers to contact their airline or visit their airline website to find out if their flight has been delayed due to weather either here, or in other parts of the country.”

Hamlin says they have not seen a significant number of delays or cancellations so far, but people should continue checking the status of their flight.

“Even if the weather is fine here, weather elsewhere can impact a traveler’s flight,” says Hamlin.

You can check the status of your flight status by going to your airline’s website. You can see your flight schedule by entering your flight number. Another option is calling your airline’s 1-800 number.

“You can also go the RDU website at rdu.com,” Hamllin says, “We have a flight status tool on our website.”

Hamlin says the amount of people won’t shake them. She says there’s plenty of parking at the airport, and they’re ready for the holiday traffic. But she says there are some things you can do to ensure a stress-free experience.

“We recommend arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight departs,” Hamlin says, “That gives passengers plenty of time to park, check in with their airline, go through the security checkpoint, and arrive at their gate before their flight departs.”
