Residents across the community are waking up on Saturday morning to varying amounts of snow.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Orange County and all of the surrounding area until Saturday evening.
Duke Energy is reporting that 42 customers in Chapel Hill are without power Saturday morning due to fallen trees or limbs damaging utility equipment. Duke officials say the outage was reported just after six o’clock Saturday morning. After originally estimating power would be restored by 9:30 Saturday morning, that has been updated to 1:30 in the afternoon.
Local officials have been encouraging residents to stay off the roads as conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day.
While the precipitation is expected to stop shortly after noon, forecast are calling for frigid temperatures throughout the weekend – possibly bottoming out at zero degrees Sunday night heading into Monday morning.
The inclement weather has caused some weekend closings.
