UNC Men’s Basketball coach Roy Williams told ESPN’s Jay Bilas he was “shocked” and “in disbelief” when he heard former basketball star Rashad McCants say the coach knew that tutors wrote his papers for him and that he remained eligible only because of phony “paper classes”.

“Every one of those players that are sitting over there, and every player I’ve had make me feel like they did their work, and we emphasize that and we push them towards that all the time,” Williams said.

Bilas asked Coach Williams his reaction to McCants claiming that tutors wrote his papers for him.

“I don’t sit in the classroom; I don’t turn in the papers,” Coach Williams said. “But I find that impossible for me to believe.”

Sixteen players issued a statement to the Associated Press Friday in support of Carolina, Coach Williams, and the educations they received while being Tar Heels. Click here to read the statement.
