CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina’s Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Karol Kain Gray, announced Thursday she will leave the University in October.

According to the Daily Tar Heel, Gray will work as the chief financial officer for Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. in New York. Gray is from Long Island and reportedly returning to New York for family reasons. She says she was approached by the CEO of the company who is a long-time friend and did not go searching for it.

The vetting process reportedly begins next week to find someone to fill the interim position. Later, a search committee will have to be formed to fill the permanent position.

Gray has worked at UNC since 2011.
