UNC administrators have sent a message to the campus community after a “threatening flyer” was posted around campus.

The flyers appear to be encouraging violence against supporters of President Donald Trump.

A poster with the phrase “Bash the Fash” has been posted around the Chapel Hill campus and spread through social media in recent days. The flyer depicts two situations that result in a “Make America Great Again” hat being burned and an individual with a swastika tattooed on their arm being hit in the head with a baseball bat.

The wording on the flyer says, “If you see something…Do something!”

A letter from Chancellor Carol Folt was sent to the campus community on Thursday evening saying the university was aware of the “threatening flyer” and that it takes “these matters very seriously.”

“The flyer and its message are the antithesis of the values that are the foundation of our University,” Folt wrote in the letter.

Folt criticized the flyer violent nature.

“It is not designed to spark civil discourse or encourage thoughtful debate. Its intentions are to incite violence, and there is no place for that here or in our society.”

Folt encouraged anyone that noticed something that was worrisome on campus to alert UNC police at (919) 962-8100. Folt also reminded the campus community that counseling was available at (919) 966-3658.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our campus,” Folt wrote to conclude the message.

There is no word at this time who disseminated the flyers.
