UNC Names Names New Vice Chancellor & Chief Info. Officer
CHAPEL HILL – Chris Kielt is UNC’s new vice chancellor and chief information officer. Kielt and newly appointed provost, Jim Dean, join Chancellor-Elect Carol Folt in a wave of change-ups to the chief leadership positions at Carolina.
Kielt has been serving as the interim vice chancellor since last February. He’ll officially step into office July 1.
Bruce Carney, out-going executive vice chancellor and provost, announced the move in a campus e-mail last week. Carney consulted with Chancellor Holden Thorp, Folt and other colleagues in recommending Kielt’s appointment.
As vice chancellor, Kielt will lead the campus-wide information technology services (ITS) staff that oversees all administrative and academic computing services. His office is responsible for network security for the entire campus and oversees ConnectCarolina, the major campus-wide effort to streamline and integrate the computing systems that manage student information, human resources, payroll and finance.
The appointment was approved by the University’s Board of Trustees.
