CHAPEL HILL – UNC will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Carolina Blood Drive on June 4. It’s goal is to collect 1,000 units of blood.

The blood drive will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dean E. Smith Center.

Patti Thorp—wife our UNC’s out-going Chancellor Holden Thorp— has been a big supporter of the blood drive. She stopped by the WCHL Studio this week to chat with Ron Stutts.

“Red Cross folks have promised us it will be a very efficient process,” Thorp said. “You’ll just come-in, we get you set-up, and get you out of there. And then, we’ll give you lots of free food, free prizes, free treats—everything!”

Patti Thorp will be joined by other Tar Heel celebrities including UNC athletic director, Bubba Cunningham; executive vice chancellor and provost, Bruce Carney; and former Voice of the Tar Heels, Woody Durham.

Everyone who donates blood will receive a Carolina Blood Drive t-shirt.

Over the past 24 years, the Carolina Blood Drive has collected 21,786 units of blood impacting 65,358 lives.
