Hurricane Matthew delivered a devastating blow to eastern North Carolina this fall, causing widespread flooding and massive damage, leaving more than two dozen dead and many more homeless.

Now that the storm is well behind us, the recovery process continues. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has been at the center of the recovery, working to repair roadways (including both I-95 and I-40) and get traffic flowing normally again.

State Transportation Secretary Nick Tennyson (a former mayor of Durham) joined WCHL’s Aaron Keck on the phone this week with an update on storm recovery statewide. They also discussed local projects – including the upcoming construction on Ephesus Church Road that’s had residents upset about a lack of communication with the DOT.
