A lane of Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard near downtown Chapel Hill will be closed Thursday and Friday for final work related to the installation of a traffic light.

The traffic signal is being placed at the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Longview Street. One lane was closed last month to allow for the light to be installed and tree removal work.

One lane in each direction will be closed on Thursday, April 26, and Friday, April 27, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. That work is needed to install pavement markings.

The traffic signal is scheduled to go into “flashing mode” in the middle of next week and will be fully operational in early May.

Chapel Hill manager Roger Stancil wrote in an email to the Town Council saying that the town is “preparing to install a pedestrian crosswalk” at the intersection.
