Motorists using Orange Grove Road may see some delays over the next few weeks as state crews are working on the roadway.

North Carolina Department of Transportation crews will be installing a chain-link fence on the existing bridge, according to a release. That work will take place where the thoroughfare crosses I-40 in Hillsborough and will require alternating lanes to be closed. The fencing is being installed near Cedar Ridge High School and Grady Brown Elementary School.

“Installing a fence will further enhance safety for pedestrians along Orange Grove Road and for motorists traveling underneath it along I-40,” DOT assistant resident engineer John Williams said in a release.

The lane closures began Wednesday night and will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. through March 28, when, weather permitting, officials hope to reopen the roadway.

Signs with further construction information will be posted near the site, according to the DOT.
