Crews are working to repair a broken water main in Hillsborough Tuesday morning.

The break was reported around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the town, in front of the former Bona Fide Sandwich Co. on North Churton Street.

Officials point to the recent record-breaking cold stretch and the subsequent warming temperatures on Tuesday as a reason for the break. A water line was also repaired on Monday on North Churton Street in front of the Hillsborough Arts Council.

“Additional breaks may happen as the soil thaws in the coming days,” officials said in a release.

Businesses located on the east side of North Churton Street between East King Street and East Tryon Street “may not have water for about six hours while the repair is made.”

Hillsborough customers who have a water line break, frozen meters or other water-related issues are asked to immediately report them to the Hillsborough Water and Sewer Billing and Collections Office at (919) 732-2681 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
