Lanes of I-85 in Orange County will be closed beginning on Tuesday as construction crews will be replacing aging signs along the highway.

Officials say the first closure was set for nine o’clock Tuesday morning for the right lane of I-85 North between mile markers 167 and 170. The closure is scheduled to last until three o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

The right lane of I-85 North will then be closed between mile markers 163 and 165 from seven o’clock Wednesday night until two o’clock Thursday morning.

The work will not completely close the interstate but officials say “contract crews will be working very close to traffic” and urge motorists to proceed with caution through the construction zones.

The typical lifespan of a highway sign is 10-12 years, according to the Department of Transportation.
