BOONE – Parts of the minutes of a recent meeting of the Watauga County Elections Board have been erased at the request of the chairman of the panel.

A third version of the minutes of the Aug. 12 meeting was approved Tuesday.

Board member Kathleen Campbell said parts of the earlier meeting that were erased from the minutes include her question on how much money would be saved by consolidating precincts in Boone, eliminating a polling location at Appalachian State University.

Campbell said she was told it would save no money.

Board Chairman Luke Eggers said the minutes should only include proposals and votes and not the discussion.

Closing polling locations at college campuses has become an issue in several cities after changes in voter laws approved by state lawmakers this year.
