The Powerball jackpot has reached $800 million.  That is the biggest lottery jackpot of all time, according to Lucke Zone.

The North Carolina Education Lottery is a part of the multi-state Powerball lottery game.

A winner of the $800 million Powerball jackpot could claim a lump-sum of $496 million.

The new record breaks the one previously set earlier this week.  Thursday morning, Powerball officials announced their jackpot had reached a record $700 million.  No lottery player has hit on all six of the Powerball numbers since November.  That has led to the record breaking jackpot.

Since ticket sales began for the Novevember 7 drawing through Wednesday night, Powerball players across North Carolina have won more than $7 million in prizes.

The ticket sales generated more than $14 million for education, according to Lucke Zone

Ticket holders have a 1 in 292.2 million chance of winning.

Powerball came to North Carolina in 2006.  There have been four Powerball jackpot winners from the state.
