GV, formerly known as Google Ventures, has announced they will not be investing in any companies in North Carolina until House Bill 2 is repealed.

The company is the venture capital arm of Alphabet, Inc, which owns Google.

To date they have not invested in any North Carolina startups, but are increasingly investing in bio-tech and life science companies.

In 2015 52 life science companies raised $584 million in venture capital, nearly half of the $1.2 billion total across the state.

GV CEO Bill Maris conducted neurobiology research at Duke before eventually joining GV.

Maris signed a Human Rights Campaign letter that was signed by more than 90 business leaders, asking North Carolina to repeal the bill.

Other signees include Apple CEO Tim Cook, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
