RALEIGH- Congressman David Price announced Friday that he plans join next week’s Moral Monday protest at the General Assembly in Raleigh.
Price says he’s worried that the legislature’s move to block the federal Medicaid expansion will deny as many as half a million North Carolinians access to healthcare.
He’s also concerned about the 70,000 state residents who will lose access to federal unemployment benefits when new state laws go into effect July 1.
Price will join a growing coalition of progressives at the General Assembly who are protesting the Republican-controlled legislature’s agenda. This week’s rally will focus on labor, women’s issues and economic justice.
The Moral Monday movement has drawn thousands of protestors to the state capitol in the past eight weeks.
More than 400 protestors have been arrested in acts of civil disobedience, including multiple Orange County elected officials.
The rally starts at 5 o’clock Monday at Halifax Mall behind the General Assembly.
