Chapel Hill – Chapel Hill Police are investigating a suspicious device found at the intersection of Elliott Road and East Franklin Street.

The device was found Thursday night around 9:30 p.m. It was smoldering, and looked like it had been set on fire. The device was not explosive, but police have not said what exactly the device is. They’ve turned the device over to the Durham County Sheriff’s Bomb Detection Unit for identification.

Traffic and pedestrians were diverted from the scene last night, but conditions in the area have returned to normal.
