A pedestrian was treated for minor injuries after being struck in Chapel Hill Thursday morning.

Authorities said the vehicle struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Erwin Road and Dobbins Drive around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

The driver – 42-year-old Abimelec Perez Rubio, of Chapel Hill – was charged with three counts, according to police, including no operator’s license, failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

Over the course of the year, Chapel Hill Police have been working to increase pedestrian safety after there have been multiple pedestrians struck on different roadways across the town, including two resulting in pedestrians being killed.

The pedestrian was transported to UNC Hospitals for treatment of what police described as minor injuries.
