ORANGE COUNTY- As the sun sets and temperatures drop, more than 30,000 residents in Orange County are still without power. In response, Director of Public Affairs Carla Banks says county officials are opening up an emergency shelter for those who need to get out of the cold.

“It will start at 6 o’clock  this evening and the shelter will remain open until power is restored,” says Banks.

The temporary shelter is at C.W. Stanford Middle School in Hillsborough, at 308 Orange High School.

Banks says those who come to the shelter should bring clothes, pillows, blankets, medication and baby supplies. While you can bring pets, Animal Services Officers will relocate them to the Orange County Animal Shelter.

If you can’t get to the shelter, you can call 919-245-6111 and county emergency officials will help arrange transport.
