Chapel Hill Fire crews have contained a natural gas leak near the Carolina Square construction site.
One of the eastbound lanes of West Franklin Street was closed while emergency crews are working in the area, according to officials.
Motorists were being urged to use caution when traveling in that vicinity.
Town officials say residents may continue to smell odors in the area.
