Deputies with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office have used Naloxone for the first time to reverse an overdose.
The law enforcement agency began carrying Naloxone late last year.
Officials say this instance included deputies finding a 20-year-old female who had overdosed on Monday. She was transported to a local hospital, according to authorities, and she survived.
“Our goal with this initiative is to save lives. Naloxone is an important tool for law enforcement who may encounter opioid overdoses in the line of duty,” says Sheriff Mike Roberson. “Heroin is here in Chatham, but thanks to Narcan, we have another way to fight back.”
Hillsborough Police officers began carrying Naloxone earlier this year, meaning all law enforcement agencies in Orange County carry the overdose reversal drug.
