The Chapel Hill Town Council has voted to reduce the speed limit on Rosemary Street from 25 miles per hour to 20 miles per hour.

The change is effective immediately and all speed limit signs have been replaced. Officials say the new signs will include orange flags to drawn attention to the change.

Town officials say that this reduction will improve safety for all forms of travel along Rosemary Street, including pedestrians and cyclists. Estimates from the town show that more than 54,000 motor vehicles use Rosemary Street every week when UNC and Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools are in session.
