The Chapel Hill Police Department announced it will host its Community Police Academy beginning on April 4.

The two-day academy is designed to provide members of the community a behind-the-scenes perspective at how their department functions and a look into the daily life of a police officer.

The academy will feature a number of hands-on experiences, including K9 demonstrations, discussions on usage of force and computer simulations of real police scenarios.

Participants can attend the first session on the evening of April 4 or April 6. All participants will attend the second session in the afternoon on April 8.

Anyone who is 16 years of age or older can apply before the March 10 deadline.

Applications are available on the Chapel Hill Police Department website.
