It was a beautiful afternoon for a graduation at the Dean E. Smith Center as both the Orange and Cedar Ridge High Schools’ 2014 graduating classes held their commencement ceremonies today.

The now Orange High School alumni began their ceremonies at 4:30 p.m.; while Cedar Ridge High filled the Dean Dome with red shortly after at 7:30 p.m.

Neither of the programs included guest speakers, but instead traditional remarks from the classes’ valedictorians, student body presidents, and even a salutatorian address from Orange High’s Ashley Blakemore kept the ceremonies short and sweet.

Orange High School Principal Jason Johnson closed out the afternoon’s program with a few lasting words for his students.

“Listen to other people as they talk to you about their regrets,” Johnson said. “You don’t want to find yourself in the regret zone. If you end up in the regret zone – which you will as you grow – do not allow that regret zone to take away from your happiness.”
