Donna Coffey has been elected chair of the Orange County Schools Board of Education.

Coffey was elected on Monday night to replace Dr. Debbie Piscitelli, who announced her resignation at a school board meeting earlier this month.

Piscitelli’s latest tenure on the board came to an end less than a year after her return in March to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Rosa Williams.

Piscitelli was first elected to the board in 2006 and served two terms before choosing not to run for re-election in 2014.

Coffey was re-elected to the board in 2014 and has previously served as board chair.

After being elected, Coffey said in a release that she was happy to be chosen as chair, adding that “our staff is hardworking and committed to making Orange County Schools the first choice for families and a career destination for our employees.”

Incumbents Stephen Halkiotis and Tony McKnight have filed to run for re-election to the board next year. Another seat on the board is up for election but no candidates have filed at this point.

John Hamilton has filed for the two-year unexpired term that will be voted on next year.
