The Maryland plane crash that claimed the life of Dr Michael Rosenberg cut short the life of a man dedicated to improving the world through medical research and innovation.

Rosenberg received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of California and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Harvard.

He taught Epidemiology as well as Maternal and Child Health as an adjunct professor at UNC. Andrew Olshan, chair of epidemiology at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, released this statement following Rosenberg’s death:

“We were shocked and saddened to hear of Michael Rosenberg’s untimely passing. He generously shared his extensive knowledge and experience with our students and faculty, and we will miss his wisdom and insights. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones in this time of sorrow.”

In 1989 he founded Health Decisions, Inc, a private clinical research company based in Durham. He told the Triangle Business Journal his goal was to provide patients with “earlier access to treatments and diagnostics at more affordable prices.”

Rosenberg and his company garnered many awards. Most recently, the Triangle Business Journal recognized him as CIO of the Year for 2014 and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals’ honored him with the 2014 Award for Innovation in Clinical Research.

“Everyone at Health Decisions is devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague Michael Rosenberg,” said Health Decisions Vice President of Clinical Affairs Patrick Phillips, in a released statement.”The thoughts of the management and employees of Health Decisions go out to Dr. Rosenberg’s family as well as to the families of the other passengers.”
