Johnson served as president of the Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior (Seymour) Center.

Chapel Hill resident Ann Johnson passed away last month at the age of 94, after a long and acclaimed career working with senior citizens in North Carolina.

Johnson spent 23 years as executive director of the Durham Coordinating Council for Senior Citizens. She also served on the board of the National Council on Aging, chaired the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging, and served as president of the NC Coalition on Aging – for starters. She won the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2000; in 2001 the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services named its Institute for Senior Center Management after her.

Ann Johnson passed away on October 19. You can make memorial contributions to the Friends of the Seymour Center – another of the many organizations she led during her lifetime of service.

Condolences to the friends and family of Ann Johnson.
