A portion of Hillsborough’s Riverwalk greenway will be closed for most of January.

Officials said in a release that a “crumbling” sewer line needs to be replaced near the South Cameron Street access. The 20-inch concrete line was installed 50 to 60 years ago and was discovered when crews were replacing a manhole earlier in 2017.

A detour has been established that will bring users off of the trail near marker 114 and re-enter near trail maker 116. Approximately 15 signs will be posted along the detour route.

While crews will be on the scene installing fencing on Friday, December 29, the trail will still be accessible for First Day Hikes on New Year’s Day before the closure on Tuesday, January 2. Officials estimate the work will continue for three weeks.
